Course Descriptions

This course provides the information and skills necessary to do much of the repair work around today's homes. Units covered include: Assessing a home, home wiring, interior and exterior wall finishes, insulating, windows and doors, paneling and tiling, floor coverings, roofing, plumbing, heating and concrete work. Students will complete exercises related to home repairs.

Woods Technology
This is a hands-on course designed to give the student an overview of wood and its many uses. Students will gain wood working skills and a greater appreciation for a natural resource. Activities include but are not limited to birdhouses, cabinets, furniture, shelves, coat racks, icehouses, stick furniture, and other individual projects as approved by the instructor.

Drafting and Design/Model Making
Students will be exposed to many areas dealing with innovation and the language of architectural, mechanical and engineering drafting. Three-view drawings and sectional views will be drawn. Traditional methods of drafting (pencil and paper), as well as CADD (Computer Assisted Drafting and Design) will be used. Classroom activities include designing a home, office, and park facility.

Engines and Power
This course covers areas of engine work and power development. Students will spend time working on engines and individual projects. Different engines (marine, automobile, jet, electrical) will be studied. Students will learn about cars, recreational equipment, and transportation systems. Students will gain technical reading, writing, and math skills.

Construction
This course is designed to give the student a hands-on experience with building trades. Framing, foundations, roofing, siding, and other areas of construction will be explored. Each trimester the onsite jobs will change. Typically, the class will perform one job for the school, one for the community, and perhaps an additional job as well. Students may take the class more than once if approved by the instructor.

Pre-Engineering
Pre-Engineering is a course that is will introduce students to the world of designing with limits. Students will combine their imagination along with knowledge gained regarding materials and processes to create products that will meet a set of requirements. This course will be a combination of hands on learning along with a study of engineering processes. The major project for this course will be the designing, building and testing of a SuperMileage vehicle.

Video Production
This course will give students an opportunity to experience the production of video through hand on learning. Analog and digital video will be introduced along with editing, special effects, lighting, sound, and filming techniques. Students will be working with digital video cameras along with several types of software to create videos that meet or exceed the requirements. Student will have several opportunities to create short videos using skills learned in class. Television broadcasting will be studied and applied, as student will also create news broadcast. All projects in this course have the possibility of being aired on the local access channel depending on their quality.

Computer Applications
This course will focus on using Microsoft Office software. How would you like to give the best class presentation you have ever given? In computer applications you will learn how to give effective presentations using multimedia. Students will also use their creative abilities to create a variety of documents such as flyers, brochures, and newsletters. You will learn the techniques used by graphic designers to grab people’s attention. Help your club, organization, or team design fundraising flyers, logos, and brochures. If you want to be your own boss or are interested in the business management career pathway, you should take this course. This course will help you learn how to present yourself in the manner business demands.

Accounting A
Have you ever wanted to be in charge of a multi-million dollar company and be in charge of all the money? That is what accountants do. Accounting is often called the language of business. By taking this course, you will start to develop the skills needed to be “the boss”. See if you have what it takes to run your own business.

Accounting B
Accounting II is a continuation of Accounting I at a more advanced level. The main focus of the course will be on merchandising businesses. Students will also use computers to perform an accounting business simulation.
