John Engstrom
Interim Superintendent

I’m excited to serve the Moose Lake Community Schools as the interim Superintendent this year.  The Moose Lake community has been a part of my family’s story since the 1940’s, when my grandparents bought a small cabin on the west side of Sand Lake.  Relatives from both sides of the family have had cabins on Sand Lake for generations.  More recently, my parents lived on Kasper Road.

I once lost a golf match on the 9th hole of the Moose Lake Golf Course when my opponent got a hole in one.  The opponent was my brother.  He was 11.  My mom used to come into the school as part of the ‘Generator’ reading program.  Lots of memories.

My wife and I have been in education since the mid 1980’s.  After college, marriage, and a stint in the Peace Corps in the Fiji Islands, we moved to the suburban Houston area and taught and coached for five years.  We then moved to her native Wisconsin, and ended up spending 30 years there.  In addition to raising our family of three children, we each had a few different roles.  My wife has been an elementary classroom teacher, a special education teacher, and a Reading Specialist.  I’ve been a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and Superintendent.

I’ve had the good fortune of knowing both Bob Indihar and Billie Jo Steen, and they both always spoke highly of the dedicated staff and the community support for the district.  Moose Lake is, indeed, a wonderful place.  There are many great things happening in our school. Many of our teachers will be especially busy this year meeting the training requirements laid out by the READ Act.  All staff will be involved in our continuing efforts to meet the learning, social, and emotional needs of every student.

I’m looking forward to a great year.

Go Rebels!
